Charlotte Mason wrote six volumes on her educational philosophy. We meet to read the volumes so we can grow as CM educators together, while our kids have the opportunity to play and connect outdoors. No RSVP is needed. This is an open CM group, and you are welcome to join!
What can I expect? …
After connecting and chatting about our week for half an hour (some like to bring snacks or an afternoon coffee), we take an hour to discuss the ideas presented in that week’s selection, sharing our thoughts and questions. The spark and inspiration from learning together is much better than going it alone!
While we read and connect, our children of all ages enjoy being with friends, old and new in the green space in front of the Library. Some bring activities like crafts, games, books, or sports equipment. Teens sometimes go into the Library or enjoy walking downtown together. The playground is not far. However, it is out of sight from where we meet due to the library building that divides the park in half. Parents are responsible for their children, but should instruct them to have at least one intentional buddy when away from the immediate circle, or a proper arrangement if they are young and want to go to the playground.
We realize there are many general homeschool park days in LA, but finding your Charlotte Mason people to learn and grow with can be tough. That’s why we are here! So we can find each other and grow in these methods of education and discipleship alongside others. Whether you have just chosen Charlotte Mason’s philosophy for your educational approach and everything is new, or you are seasoned, or somewhere in between, perhaps even you have children that have finished their K-12 education and you still enjoy CM community, your thoughts, wisdom, insights, and questions are most welcome as we discuss.
We meet regularly throughout the school year, but have holiday breaks that will always be reflected in the “Upcoming Schedule & Readings.” We do not formally meet in the summer.
If you are looking for Charlotte Mason community, bring a blanket or lawn chair and circle up with us!
